Fernando Calle received his PhD in Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) in Spain. He has been an associate professor and a full professor of Electronics, Nanotechnology and Microsystems in the Department of Electronics Engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) since 1992 and 2010, respectively. He is currently Head of the Semiconductor Device Group (Institute for Optoelectronics Systems and Microtechnology) and Deputy Vice Rector for Doctorate and Research at the UPM. He has been PI of 30+ R&D projects and coauthored 200+ international publications (h=31). He holds five patents and has supervised nine PhD theses. His current research is related to the physics, technology, and applications of wide bandgap semiconductors and graphene, including energy and the environment, ICT and biomedicine.
